Jim’s Background
From 1972 I spent 19 years in the construction industry, both in UK and Middle East working on both the contractor and client side of the industry incorporating technical/business process and people management responsibilities in areas such as planning, budgeting, procurement, site supervision, training and Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance.
In 1991, I joined the oil/energy industry as a project manager spending the first 5 years managing contractors and consultants in construction and soils engineering projects taking on Construction (Design & Management) Regulation co-ordination duties and responsibilities as the clients representative.
This was followed by 8 years in HSE Management within the Europe wide Transport Logistics group then the Global Shipping Group functions of an oil/energy major.
This period included being the HSE member of a Change Management team which re-structured the Transport Logistics operation bringing together 10 European operations, their associated terminals and trucking assets and workforces, and being a member of a Global Road Safety Leadership group targeted with bring about improvement in policy, process and enhancement of safety behaviours of company management and the employee/contractor workforce.
During my 4 years in shipping I was also involved in the HSE Assurance programs, behavioural safety training and shipyard and repair yard management systems audits and inspections, training of shipyard personnel in areas of process best practice.
I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Building, the Association for Project Safety, the Energy Institute and the Association for Petroleum and Explosive Administration as well as being a Lloyds/IRCA ISO 9000/2000 Series Lead Auditor. |
